Now, I believe that the time has come for our district community to make an important shift. All schools in the Northshore School District will be closed beginning Thursday, March 5 for up to 14 days while we continue to monitor the situation and health department recommendations. Today and tomorrow we will communicate plans to transition instruction from classroom to cloud (online learning) beginning Monday, March 9. This decision was made thoughtfully and with the support of a variety of district and community leaders.

Why am I making the decision today?

I considered the fact pattern that my team and I have been tracking since mid February and into this afternoon. By now you are aware that we closed Bothell High School for two days last week to deep clean and wait for test results from the family member of an employee. Frank Love Elementary was closed on Monday so we could clean and wait for test results on another employee. We are still waiting for those results. Multiple individuals from across our district are in self-quarantine because they may have been exposed to the COVID-19 coronavirus as a result of the issues at the senior home in Kirkland. At about 8:30 this morning, we were informed by a parent/volunteer at Woodmoor Elementary School that their medical provider had run tests and the results are “presumptively positive” for the COVID-19 virus. Our staff at Woodmoor worked quickly with families to minimize any additional exposure and send students home safely. In addition, 26 of our schools have been affected via direct or indirect exposure to the COVID-19 virus. We are receiving numerous calls and emails from parents and staff who are self-quarantining or are choosing to keep their students home. Today, our absentee rate for students districtwide was 20 percent.

In the letter they talk about cloud learning, and offer computers and hotspots for those that don't have them. And are working on "school lunches", and day care of some sort.



and 2,100+ employees serve over 22,000 student in our 33 schools.

If there is a shortage of gloves, all they would need to do is wash their hands with gloves on in a bucket of bleach or even spray them with antibacterial , between each passenger they check through.

Four of these five genomes are all part of a single cluster that appears to descend from the initial WA1 case identified in mid-Jan, including the case in Snohomish as well as two cases from King County. 2/8

This directly suggests that the transmission chain initiated in mid-Jan by case WA1 in Snohomish is responsible for at least a portion of the cases appearing in Seattle. 3/8

Given these are part of a single transmission chain, our forward simulations should still capture the predicted extent of spread with a median estimate of 570 current infections with a 90% uncertainty interval of between 80 and 1500. 4/8

This is good news! (In a terrible situation) We only know of the one transmission chain and we think this contains ~600 (but perhaps up to 1500) infections today. Our numbers among cases with known genetic origins are not up from where they were on Monday. 6/8

I can live without facebook, but what are they going to do when someone who works in a nuclear power plant tests positive? Do they have a back up plan for staffing?

What next? When are we closing the schools? When is everyone who can work from home going to be required to work from home? When are we gonna have house to house deliveries of supplies?

Meanwhile, in SF, most schools remain open while the virus spreads and spreads.

so one of my FB friends in CO posted a desperate plea for prayers. "Hit with viral pneumonia that's getting worse and having hands and arms go numb up into face" apparently this occurs for about 10 mins She says lungs are full, minor sinus congestion but the neuro, hands, arms, face going numb is freaking her out. She is freaked out.

I'm like call ER. My guess she has not even heard about this virus. People are telling her to take elderberry. oh and she was at a Trump rally Feb 19, I assume the one in AZ

Canada's military ordered to begin 'pre-pandemic planning'

Canada's top military commander issued a detailed set of "pre-pandemic planning" orders on Wednesday for units both at home and overseas.

The orders give base commanders the authority, among other things, to cancel large gatherings on bases in the event of a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

They also outline "additional precautions," ranging from personal hygiene to strict reviews of all non-essential travel and leave for soldiers, sailors and aircrew.

"The intent of this is to look at all of the things we need to do to preserve the force, should this become a pandemic," said Gen. Jonathan Vance, the chief of the defence staff, at a defence conference in Ottawa.

The military needs to preserve its ability to function and support the government if there is a full-blown health emergency, he added.

Federal officials, under a worst-case scenario, are preparing for an absentee rate among government workers of 25 per cent and Vance said the military is looking at a similar number should there be a pandemic.

"On a case-by-case basis, commanders will review where their troops travel on what may be non-essential travel. Can they do it another way?" said Vance.

One of the concerns is having troops trapped in countries that close their borders or impose sudden quarantines.

Vance said the military has already noticed a disruption in travel schedules as they try to move personnel in and out of certain countries, particularly in the Middle East.

Iraq, where Canada has as many as 500 troops deployed, has reported two deaths from COVID-19. Overall, that country has reported 35 cases, with 14 in the capital of Baghdad.

Vance was speaking at an Ottawa defence conference, which was warned earlier in the day that war zones, such as northern Syria and Iraq are extraordinarily vulnerable to COVID-19 because of the poor state of the public health systems.

Jenny Cafarella, the research director the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War, noted how refugees fleeing Syria for Turkey over the last few days are sleeping in open fields. She predicted the virus could become a major security concern.

It is something Vance said he is worried about, given troops throughout the region are involved in capacity building, which requires day-to-day contact with local security forces, someone of who may not be as healthy as western soldiers.

"We're seeing it now in Iraq," he said. "Chances are, if someone is sick, they're not going to operating; they're not going to be doing the job and therefore they wouldn't be subject to our close mentoring. Nonetheless we've started to notice its spread in Iraq."

the door to door delivery is only workable on a small scale. a few hundred self isolated in a city. there are agencies that do this for the shut ins,elderly,some non-profits might b for children,etc. however,who wants to volunterr to be the deliverer for the virus?

now try to find enuf volunteers to deliver for a city of just 1 million ppl. ibn CHINA,they went to 1 person per household going to the store with PPE every 2 weeks. to keep the virus locked down,you could allow a city block out at a time,or a section of blocks.u'd only infect your neighbors then,in theory.

The diamond princess has a .85 infection rate while under quarrentine conditions, not on a subway train. Big difference.

Two more people in New York City have tested positive for coronavirus and are hospitalized in an intensive care unit, bringing the state's total to 13 cases, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on "Morning Joe" Thursday.

Neither case -- a man in his 40s and a woman in her 80s -- has a known connection to travel or any previously diagnosed local COVID-19 patients, marking what appears to be fresh community spread in New York City, de Blasio said.
