Another thought that is bothering me.I hope you can answer.
When I went to the 3 points area with the Minute Men ( early 2000). I was on duty on the Vampire line at night around midnight.

I was walking from the car to the post. As I was walking I saw BLACK on the ground. I was told not to step on the black as it was a crack or hole.

So I stopped and was looking around to get my bearings. And I fell. ( or so I thought) off the bank into the arroyo , dry river bed. But I did not think I fell. I had not moved.

But everything went black / dark. and I felt like I was moving ( like an elevator) and I felt the air temperature change as I was moving. And it took like forever , it seemed. I kept moving and thinking I was falling a long way. And it was taking a long time to get there. And I was thinking if I broke my neck or leg when I hit and so on. It did not really feel like I was falling... with gravity.

But eventually, which seemed like a long time I hit the side of the embankment, did a PLF and slide down the ridge the rest of the way on my sleeping bag. Kind if like riding a sled down to the bottom. It was now light and I could see down in the arroyo. I twisted my ankle a little when I hit and rolled and it was hurting the past few days, which got me to thinking about it.

But anyway. I broke the flashlight I was carrying and pieces fell. And I did not get one picked up.

Then I looked up, and my squad leader was there above me on the bank( maybe 12 - 15 feet up) calling for me. I never heard him call until then.

I said, I am down here.

He looked and asked. How did you get down there. I have been calling for you for a long time.( maybe 15 minutes.)

I said. "I never heard you. That is strange" I had not been there but a minute. On the top now on the bottom.

But where I hit on the bank was like only 4 or 5 feet and then I slide down the slope.

What took so long to fall 4 -5 feet? If I fell.

So, I gathered up my sleeping bag, a nice slick one, which probably saved my hide. And the flashlight pieces. Saw there was a road about 50 feet from me coming into the river bed, so I walked out and to the post.
Then went to sit down in the chairs to watch.

It was fun watching the meteors. And we had migrant come through and turn himself in because he was hurt. But it was strange, it had gotten dark again.

Anyway, When dawn came, I looked down in the ravine/river bed and saw the piece of flashlight. It did not register at first. Its location was odd. Also there was some toilet paper on a notch that was washed out, like a trough) but it was not mine on it. I still had mine in my pocket.

But the thing of it was, Where the notch was that I saw that night was several feet away from the edge. and the flash light piece was not in the location of the washed out spot.

They asked if it was a piece of the flashlight and I did not know, but I went to retrieve it as I did not wish to leave trash in the desert. But it was a piece of the flashlight. And in the wrong place from where I " fell".
or was standing. I just looked as it did not make any sense to me.

I felt stupid just walking off a bluff, especially since I had been warned about it. And shown it. But I guess I was confused in the dark..

Two night later I saw Harry sparkle and disappear and I found him under a tree later maybe 200 feet where I last saw him standing. And he was dazed and did not remember anything.

Anyway, as I think on this "Falling off the bank of the dry river bed", this thought has bothered me.

Was I abducted / picked up off that bank and then dropped back on the slope a little bit away from where I had been standing?

It is the only thing that makes sense to me.

or maybe, I just do not want to admit I walked off the cliff in the night.. sigh.. dumb me.

Your fall down the embankment reminded me of a Jeep accident that I was in years ago. I was in the front passenger seat while we were going through the Forest. I saw it coming... it all went into slow motion like in a movie.

I tried to jump out, but the seat belt held me back and I was only able to get my right leg through the open window. The Jeep rolled down the embankment with my leg still on the outside and came to a landing on it's side... right on my leg.

Thank ETs... I came out of the ordeal with only a sprained ankle.. and lots of Forest debris in my hair... heehe...

"Silent. Looked like a really bright white star. Observed for about 20 seconds until disappeared. Had no smoke, no sound, moving rather slowly. "I'm a teacher with mostly book and video knowledge only and just happen to see this! It happened too quickly to video record unfortunately, but it was still daylight out and plenty bright to see. I've seen meteors in the middle of the night but never anything like this one!"
