Heading in the direction of downtown LA from where I was standing. I’ve lived directly next to LAX for years, and while outside smoking a cigarette, immediately recognized this light (coming my direction, from over the ocean to over the land) as far too bright to be a plane. That coupled with the lack of any flashing lights made me stand up and run to the edge of my yard to get a better view. I’ve checked all local AFB advisories and have yet to find anything, as my first thought was perhaps a drone. I’ve seen two other fireballs in the past, and this looked like neither of them. The thing that makes me think it may not have been a fireball though is the fact that once the light burned out, I could still see the objects silhouette against the light-polluted sky, flying by at the same speed as before (which was well faster than any plane I’ve seen around here) " |

It was extremely bright and the trail was about 1/4 of the sky, the area of sky that I was able to view. It went over my house and behind a tree that was close to me, not on the horizon. I actually ran to the other side of the tree to see it and only then did it 'burn out'. I was standing with my boyfriend and father and yelled for them to look and usually by that time a shooting star is already gone and everyone misses it. But not this time, we all stood there in awe for roughly 5 seconds. We couldn't believe how long it lasted, the brightness, the orange color, and the trail of it. Unbelievable." |

It was surprisingly slow (like a fast jet plane) and very red with a very long contrail.
