Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lybia, Greece, Egypt... Now Ukraine? Quoting: RelentlessDespot In all of the previous uprisings we all here kind of knew where it was going and for the most part we were right. Go back through the now 200 plus pages of this thread. None of us have the slightest clue as to what's going on.. That for me is the scary part. It seems to be in countries with a pro Russian stance, not always but its clear what the strategy is. Yeah any country with either a defense pact with Russia/China or those who lack/refused a Rokefeller central bank. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me. Or something |

While Crimea is situated far from the drama of Kiev, it stands out as the only region in Ukraine where Russians are in the majority, constituting about 60 percent of Crimea's population. There is also a critical naval base at Sevastopol that the Russians lease from Ukraine. Sevastopol serves as the home of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, and it gives the Russian Navy direct access to the Mediterranean Sea. Russia has signed a lease agreement with Ukraine that allows its fleet to remain at Sevastopol until 2042. [link to www.themoscowtimes.com] Crimea actually wants to seperate from Ukraine. When this crisis worsened their calls to go their own way has been getting louder and louder. The people there actually have a strong dislike for Ukrainians and Soviet sentiment still lives strong there. Russia's move will be depending on Ukraine's prime governments' reaction. If they let them go peacefully, that's that. If not, you'll have South Ossetia all over again tenfold, and i cant help but feel Russia would make use of this chance to secure other "interests" when they are already at war with them. Crimea could be the flashpoint of a new war, it's not the first time Crimea has openly stated their intentions and it never had the backing of the government, even though they are named the "Autonomous Republic" and should've expected that day would come at some point. It could start with Crimea, or a Russian reaction. They have to do something at this point if they want to have some sort of buffer zone between them and the EU. A total western aligned Ukraine seems out of the question for both strategic and economic reasons. The fact that Yanukovych and his party have in a way been "exiled" makes this entire situation all the more dangerous simply because the Russian government feels it's back against the wall, and are forced into taking action. From that point on, things could spiral out of control. Or more likely the west lets it happen and that's that. Now, the winter olympics are over and this matter will get the fullest attention from Putin again. It's far from over. |

What the fuck "break apart" means? Is Ukraine independent country/State or a member or a part of Russia(n federation)? Unknowable, knowing nor knowledge am I, formless is my form. I dwell within a senses but they are not my home. Ever serenely balanced, I am neither free nor bound. Conciseness and joy am I...and bliss is where I am found. |

Ukraine is bankrupt. Under the terms of the European Union offer of last year, which virtually nobody in the Western media seriously examined, the EU was offering $160 million per year for the next five years while the bond repayments to the International Monetary Fund alone were greater than that amount. In contrast, Russia offered $15 billion in cash and immediately paid $3 billion. Another $2 billion was to be paid earlier this week, but that tranche has been suspended "for technical reasons," an unidentified Ukrainian government official told Reuters on Thursday. President Vladimir Putin's spokesman said separately that the Kremlin was waiting for the situation to normalize in Ukraine before sending the funds. Ukraine was willing to move toward the broader European fold, but the EU flubbed by offering rhetoric and red tape when what it should have done is put cash on the table. The EU's failure to understand Ukraine's desperate need for cash tied Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's hands and forced him into doing the deal with Russia. |

Only the previous day, Vlad Roditelev, a 21-year-old native of Sevastopol, was part of the detachment guarding the Interior Ministry in Kiev, one of the last government buildings in the capital still under government control on Friday. But as night fell, a final set of orders came down from their commanding officers: abandon your posts. The armory inside the building was still full of pistols and assault rifles at the time. “And we just left it all behind,” Roditelev says. “Now the fascists have it, and they’re not going to stop.” His first aim upon returning home was to take a bath, the first in many weeks, and spend some time with his parents. After that, he said, he planned to join up with one of the militia groups and prepare for the arrival of the revolutionary forces. “We just have to defend our own city now,” he said. “The country is lost.” Russia, he felt certain, would come to help them. Quoting: Unit 88 [link to world.time.com] He labelled the Russian army as revolutionary forces? Interesting if this is the sentiment of the pro Russian Ukrainians inside EU-US strongholds in Ukraine! |

They would risk world war just to hold it. This is equivalent to the US choke point at the Suez Canal except the stakes are much higher and Russia only has the one direct excess to the South. |

If Russia gets their part of Ukraine and the EU get their part of Ukraine, logic says then there is more money for the pro Russian Ukrainians than the pro EU ones. Since I feel for the pro EU Ukrainians bankruptcy I will save a spot at the soup kitchen with any Ukrainian wishes to join the EU. They make nice meals and there is always a warm bed at the homeless shelters all founded by our loving European union. |
