Russians are protecting Abkhazia & South ossitia after the madman sakashville launched a war to take those breakaway regions back under tiblisi's controll,at exact time on beging olympics opening ceremony, spending billions on US weapons while his people starved. He turned what was the breadbasket of russia and an awesome fine wine producer into a basket case nation. He shelled civilians and international peace keepers with artillary, some of those peace keepers were russian soldiers. Putin wouls only attack georgia if america 1st orders georgia to attack russia, but sacky aint there anymore hes currently in kiev, trying to push his masters lies & properganda on glp, ect. The Rose Revolution marked the end of the Eduard Shevardnadze reign in Georgia, along with the end of a Soviet Era of leadership. Consisting of twenty days worth of protest, it ended with the rise of new elections and Shevardnadze stepping down from power. Part of a political party Shevardnadze created himself called the Citizens’ Union of Georgia or the CUG, questions of succession began to be asked as early as 2002. The party began to slowly deteriorate as previous CUG members created opposition parties, which were able to successfully take support away from the president. Two of the most well-known opposition parties were New Rights and the New National Movement. Following a parliamentary election on November 2, 2003, accusations of election fraud began to circulate. Beginning on November 3, 2003, the revolution began with protests claiming the new parliament was essentially illegitimate. These protests took place in the capital of Tbilisi, which alone contained a third of the country’s population. Starting out small, they gradually grew to over 100,000 demonstrators at one time, who demanded the resignation of Shevardnadze and an end to his more than 30 year rule with the movement ending on November 23, twenty days later with his resignation. Essentially a non-violent revolution, it was carried out with no bloodshed. Shevardnadze sent soldiers to the streets fearing the possible occurrence of a civil war. Soldiers reportedly laid down their weapons when protestors showed no interest in retaliation. Shevardnadze, the 75-year-old incumbent president was essentially ousted from power when he was called on to resign by Mikhail Saakashvili. Saakashvili, Georgia’s former justice minister was recruited into the Georgian government by Zurab Zhvania, the secretary general of the CUG, from a Manhattan law firm in the United States. He is recognized for his role in leading demonstrators to the parliament building. Shevardnadze was giving a speech when Saakashvili proclaimed, “Resign!” He was immediately evacuated by his guard and taken to one of his residences. While there, he declared a state of emergency and the urgency to stop the protests by force. With a lack of power over the military, he essentially had no choice but to resign. There are many connections as to where the revolution’s name originated from. Some give credit to the actions of demonstrators in the square. When soldiers, along with police were sent to enforce order, student protestors were seen to have been giving red roses to soldiers. Another correlation is drawn from Mikhail Saakashvili, who was said to be holding a rose as he went into the parliament building demanding Shevardnadze’s resignation. |
