Actually far more coal mines closed under the Labour Prime Ministers Harold Wilson and James Callaghan than under Thatcher! Quoting: Tess2012 IIRC The issue was that the majority of pits closed under Wilson and Callahan were either dangerous and very expensive to exploit or ran out of coal. Thatcher (well, MacGregor really, and he was no fan of Thatcher in the end) closed pits that were still viable solely to save money. The NUM's actions in 1981 didn't help Thatcher's opinion of them either, which might have led to her being more against them. And then of course Scargill's comment's during the strike (about wanting to overthrow the government) were idiotic for someone in his position. From what I've read about the miners' strike, neither side behaved sensibly. |

Quoting: Obtrice1985 I don't think it's just doing simple communications relay. Modern radios and sat tech can cover all comms needs in that region. I think that Russia is in a very high state of 'defcon' that we havent seen before. They actually expect or will initiate ICBM exchange. Let's not be foolish. Putin loves himself too much to commit suicide. Nor would anybody use ICBM's and most of the Russians missiles wouldn't fly anyway. It would all be done from subs, off the coats, with hypersonic cruise missiles. Or, really, who knows what weapons they all have, sitting around begging to be used. Y'all just all better stay the hell away from Texas, unless you want to see how fast you can run from here back to wherever you came from. That goes for foreign and domestic enemies both. I wonder where your people's obsessions come from that Putin is this evil monster who wants world domination. Facts are so far he's been laid back, diplomatic and a very down to earth guy unlike other hotheads with their aggressive rhetoric. You should research it then. I have and i dont backtrack, i have 4 kids. Lol! He wants the power of the soviet union and he's made multiple comments about it, some overheard. He went from owning 7 million to 40 billion in just a few years, is apparently sex crazed and loves the really young ladies hence the divorce, he's very insecure of his height and wears lift up shoes, he likes to have professional photographers take his picture without a shirt on WAY too many times, once even while riding a horse. He is obsessed with guns and martial arts, he was a career spy......... his psyc profile says: Demagogue/narcissist, the only thing he and Obama have in common. Which is why they both make me very nervous. I'd actually trust Putin more though. He's the kind of guy who would offer a man a last smoke and maybe even a drink. Our president is literally the most untrustworthy person I've ever personally known to exist, and I think he wants to kill every white Christian in America. So......good times. |

And the people who one day kick down your door are likely to find themselves at the receiving end of those rights. A lot of ordinary Americans have stockpiled a lot of ammo in their homes in recent years. That is something that bothers me about the present conflict. If the Rebs are in control of that amoury neat Slovansk then why did they not arm the entire populace? Could it be that they don't really believe in giving power to the ordinary people? That's troubling. |

Mines too small and too worked out to be economical to invest in more modern safety techniques and mining devices. I think you will find it is the usual intentionally deceptive statistics. They may have close more mineshafts but did not close more tons of production. |

My first Pit had 15 years of reserves when it closed , they just spent 2 million installing a new coal face , that was just about ready to turn coal , in the end they salvaged a few bits and bobs , the rest is still there . The second mine I worked at in 94' had 10-20 years of reserves... I joined after the strike , but my family where involved , either side...split the family , and in the end , no one won...well thats a lie , the Tories won taking back handers giving the coal import contracts to china and Russia ...and got us stuck now though , need the coal and one of our main importers is a country we are issuing sanctions too....ya couldnt make the fucker up LOL :drdoomison: :UKIPDAY: Welcome to TRUMPLIKE PRODUCTIONS. |

All of it by USA. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57362764 Not so. My British father was a mariner involved in WWII and war materiel. Although Archangel (and to a lesser extent Murmansk) were more famous, in fact most of the arms, both American and from the British Empire were supplied through Persia. A railway that (I believe) no longer exists. Little known, but the far and away the biggest and most effective contribution was the Studebaker 2.5 ton Truck of which several hundred thousand were supplied. Russia's biggest need at that time for war logistics was trucks (lorries to the British). They were also converted into Katusha rocket launchers and most off all used to tow field artillery with a team of soldiers and ammo. Soviet union would have still beaten the Nazis without American help, but it would have taken longer. I'm not sure whether the world will see heroes like those people ever again. Yep very true, thanks to Hollywood's lie machine most Americans think Britain contributed nothing to WW2, despite the fact we fought alone against the German war machine for 2 years, at a time when even the Soviet Union was at peace with Hitler. You were never alone. USA and Zionists were with you all the way from since Balfour Declaration back in 1916....not to mention rest of Empire. When you study and digest true history...you suddenly realize that Britain is by far most responsible for shit today. |

The great ace of world war 2, Pokrishkin ( [link to en.wikipedia.org] was flyin an american Bell P-39 aircobra, and he did some serious damage to luftwaffe. Thats just one example of what can helping hand can do in right moment. But at this moment, our great nations once again in verge of collapse, and by the same mistake - trying to take over my country. You must admit that my goveremnet does not plot anything near US borders, imagine if parts of canada overthrow current goverment, and restrict the use of english language on their soil. This is how it feels there, and even some of your current tbtb admitted they helped overthrown powers in Ukraine. But i am sure there lots of sane people left in US which will not let your current goverment go to war with us. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32988178 The part most of you Russians don't get is that we want freedom from our central bankers too. They finance both sides in war, and profit from death. As I've said before, wars wouldn't happen if soldiers didn't fight. Now that you realize soldiers fight and die for banks, remember it the next time someone shoves a rifle in your hands along with some patriotic words and orders you to kill. And tell all your friends. Problem is most people are literally not smart enough to understand that we all have a common enemy. I started it in my family. The men in my family signed a sacred vow to never volunteer or be drafted to fight in a banker war, but also made a vow to volunteer immediately for the "defend America from attack" army if it ever exists. I encourage you and everyone to do the same. I just know the Feds are gonna kick my door in one day for pursuing "peace". WoW you are good! If I could I would gave you green. Thanks, man. Just register, then you can. They already know who you are, friend. No such thing as anonymous. -Whispering- Plus, it makes it possible that you are an ass-kissing shill to some people, and not to be trusted That's reality for ya. I refuse to be so afraid that I can't even use my real Christian name. I will also never lie about a statement I made or a belief I hold, even unto death. I am also a US military veteran and will not hesitate nor have any issue defending myself and family from anyone meaning harm. He who is with us is greater than he who is with them. I refuse to fear the evil we know that as was in Noah's day will soon again be. I'm ready to do whatever part God has for me, and to help as many as I can before times up. I wish we had more time. Remember a few years ago there was this big hype over the 5,000 bomb shelters being built in Russia? And the Chinese ghost cities? I think this has been planned for a long time and it's one man's desire. Putin's. I think he's decided to fulfil that Orthodox Russian prophecy as the golden leader who ushers in armageddon and he wants to do it by starting WW3 with the US. If you look at that prophecy, it's exactly how he's presented himself to the world, right down the shirtless pictures and him saying he's the protector of the faith. Also keep in mind what Merkel said about him not being in reality. He clearly has his own agenda. If Obama and the rest of the world don't give him what he wants in Ukraine, war, he'll go somewhere else and try again. I don't believe for the moment that the end game is Ukraine, I believe the end game is apocalypse and he'll go as far as he needs to go to get it. |

Sorry, you are correct. Time is just flying by me. lol And consider that the UK wouldn't be the only one having a shortage, most of Europe would be having one. Which is why I switched to wood here as I have land with trees and am able to scrounge a lot too as most here have natural gas heat or electric and just want those trees taken away. For free. |
