...To convince a young woman that she has had a failed pregnancy without an ultrasound can devastate the young lady. And to have her believe that she isn't pregnant will likely lead to her drinking within the next 10 days which could ultimately CAUSE a miscarriage if she wasn't going to have one! I told my sister to continue treating her body as though she is pregnant. No drinking or anything else that could harm the baby just in case. Not even her doctor said that. Wtf?!
Quoting: Simple27 Great advice Sim. Praying for Sis!
Quoting: Zeke38 I am infuriated beyond belief! This reckless doctor made my sister believe, without factual confirmation, that her pregnancy failed.
It may have. But it may have NOT!
On Saturday our cousin is having a girls' night. She does it annually and all of the girl cousins go to her house and drink, eat, play games, dance and even sleep over. There's a glorious homemade breakfast the next morning too!
Then we have Super Bowl Sunday. A HUGE drinking night!
No doubt my sister would've drank away her sadness this weekend had I not done a little research!
To boot, her doctor has only been practicing for 7 years. Grasping for straws? Yes, I am. I can't help it. I'm in protective mode of my baby sister and although the doctor may be right, she CANNOT confirm that based on ONE follow up level check. And 7 years isn't long in the doctor-practicing-timescale...just sayin'.
I read a woman’s story earlier who had a similar situation. She took a home test that came out positive then went to the doctor to confirm. Her level wasn’t very high so they had her repeat the labs 2 days later. Repeated labs showed a significant drop. She was sent home believing she had a failed pregnancy and she scheduled a D&C. When she went for the D&C, they did a vaginal ultrasound first to confirm the D&C was still needed (that she didn’t pass everything naturally), and they saw a
HEARTBEAT!!! The result showing the drop was
LAB ERROR!She almost aborted her baby because of that lab error showing a level drop! I refuse to give up hope, more importantly, let my sister give up hope until there is no hope left. We might be close to that point (according to one follow up result), but
nothing is confirmed!
Something just isn't sitting right with me about this. I pray to God we see a miracle here!
