Did you read the Harbinger? Or did anyone else here? Have been thinking about getting it, it is $9 for Kindle and wondering if it would be worth it?

Also been wanting to read more on the Blood Moons so wondering if this would be good or does anyone have a good suggestion? The Jewish side of things is a bit blank for me, as Jazzy knows well lolsign

Yes, I've read that book, then I read 'One Second After.' Both were good books and very eery. If I were to do it over again, I'd find something else to read in between with a little lighter subject material.

'The Harbinger' was well researched and was an eye opener.

'One Second After' was extremely well written. The author is an expert at making it feel like you are really there, in the situation.

Both of them are the type of books that, once you pick it up, be ready to sit there for the duration and finish them. You will not want to put either of them down.

'One Second After' I have now read 3 times. I cry every time even though I know what is coming. It is so well written that it is a classic. Did you know they are suppose to be making this into a movie? I don't know how they will manage to stay true to the heart felt agony those people went through.

If you are putting the Harbinger in the same category, I look forward to reading/listening to it

I would not put 'The Harbinger' in the same category, but it certainly got me to think about some things and I did enjoy reading it. I enjoy reading though, so rarely do I not enjoy at least some part of a book. There's maybe two I can think of that I did struggle to finish and absolutely disliked when completed.

I've not heard about the movie 'One Second After.' I agree, it will be difficult to transfer the emotion of that book to film. That's not unusual though. I've never watched a movie, that was originally a book, that was as good as the book. I do know there's a sequel 'One Year After' due out soon, if it's not out already. The author also has another book, that's similar, published that I have yet to read.

Cloud Atlas, Forest Gump, Gulliver's Travels, The Color Purple, The Stand, Life of Pi, to name a few, were ALL far superior to the movie. Even 'The Great Gatsby' was far better in book form and it was an extremely short book. I don't know how they managed to mess that one up.

Have any of you noticed something when out shopping the last 2 weeks...

I've noticed people are swiping there plastic multiple times. I don't mean the standard, opps, I swiped too soon, but like 3, 4 or even more times. I even see people like rub the strip with fingers. So much, the cashier gets involved or the customer just gets anther card to use.

Even more weird, I then see the cashier get out one of those small plastic sacks. Like when you just buy a greeting card or a bottle of Aspirin. Then cashier puts the card in, wraps it tight, and then it will swipe and take, but usually on the second swipe... I've seen this about 7 times and at 4 different stores in the last week and half.

The customers will either be kind of like, what the heck you doing, or they mention yeah, this has been happening before.

Anyone know what's up? I'm really not making this up, it's weird... Must have something to do with static electricity?

Haiti Photos Then and Now: 5 Years After Earthquake, Much Rebuilding Remains

Like September 11 in the United States, janvye (January) 12 in Haiti has become a term in its own right, a marker against which time is measured. "His son was born two months after janvye 12."

Monday marks five years since the goudou goudou—the Haitian creole term for the sound that fills the air when a big earthquake happens. The January 12 quake took more than 200,000 lives and left 1.5 million homeless.

If a cell phone can completely erase those electronic room keys for hotels (I've had it happen a few times) I don't see why it wouldn't affect credit/debit cards.

I know, but Forest Gump and Gulliver's travels, for example, are completely different stories when you read the book. Sometimes I think they take it a little to far to 'adapt to the big screen.' It completely takes away the original meaning of the book.

Just another reason why I choose not to support Hollywood at all. I haven't paid to see a movie in many years now.

I am not sure why it works, but having worked retail in the past, I know this trick works most of the time. In some cases the card is just too far gone and we had to input the numbers manually.

I like free eBooks, but there's nothing like having a real book. You may also consider looking at your local library's calendar of events for book sales. My local library has a used book sale twice a year. The first couple days it's $1.00 per paperbacks and $2.00 for hardbacks, unless the book is very new (and popular) or an old printing in excellent condition. On the last day of the sale they usually change it to $5.00 per box to help reduce inventory of what's left. I can go spend $30-40 when they first open (better selection those days) and walk out with a big box of books that would have cost me hundreds at a used book store.

Needless to say, my living room literally looks like a library and I still have boxes stashed throughout the house full of books.

I may have a hoarding problem, but it's only books so it can't be all bad. There's far worse things to hoard....

Yes. I'm not dumb, I was thinking of all kinds of reasons, that was one. But smart phones and credit cards aren't new, why am I seeing this now?

Something has changed with either the our cards, smartphones, the POS readers at the stores or maybe even something more.

One time, Saturday I was at the Post Office and some was using a card, same thing. Now I know the Post Office is not using brand new state of he are POS units, compuers or even software.

All of you keep an eye on this. I'm not loosing it, really.

I wasn't calling you dumb, just offering an idea.

Perhaps wireless charging (NFC) that most new phones have now. They're sending out even more RF signals 'looking' for the charging pad or other nearby devices it can pair up with to share photos and what not.

Cards seem to be different now too and I seem to keep them for longer periods before the expire than I recall in the past. Thinner plastic and having to use the same card for a year or two longer probably has some effect too.

My momma loved her books. She loved British Cozy's. She loved mysteries. She loved True Crime. She loved hard cover books. She had 400+ books when she passed. I donated all of them to charity.

I have my books. Nothing like above. I have 100's and 100's on my Kindle. Okay, I admit it, a few thousand....lolsign

Sol Neman, I didn't mean for you think I thought you were thinking I was dumb. I was just racking my brain trying to think of technical reasons why.
