Nef got hurt today at work. : (  He fell off a ladder and hit the side of his head right about where the temple is, next to the eye. Huge lump. Looks like it's bruising and has a bunch of those red dots (like hickey dots lol) all in the lump area and in a line going up from the lump towards the forehead area, but more on the side of the head. Got some scrapes on his arms too, but I'm a little concerned about his dome. It looks bad. He probably has a concussion. :\ Direct hit to the temple area from 12ish feet high. He says he's gonna work tomorrow. I don't think he should. He tried to stay at work today after it happened, but they ended up telling him to go home. Just venting I guess. He never comes on GLP anymore so he won't even see this lol. Oh no! That sounds like a bad fall and bad hit to the noggin. That sucks to begin with, but at a new job too! That's probably why he was insistent on going to work today. That, and because I assume he's a stubborn man :) Well, I'm pretty sure you'll take excellent care of him but I would encourage him to take it easy this weekend and at any hint of any unusual behavior or symptoms, go right to the ER. Sometimes there can be injuries that don't present themselves until later. |

He never comes on GLP anymore so he won't even see this lol. Check his pupils for dilation. Is he nauseous? Dizzy? Blurred vision? If he turns his head, does it hurt just to turn? If he has a concussion and goes to work, it's possible he could be on a ladder again and get dizzy. If he hits it head at all with a concussion, it could go from mild to severe or from severe to life-threatening. It's not something to take lightly. Too many concussions or a concussion on top of another can have permanent affects on the brain. This is what I was trying to get at :) |

I will try and describe to see if anyone else having it. My ears are ringing then all of a sudden silence , almost like when you have a power surge , does this make sense something feels different is all I am saying... Yes, all evening it kept happening to me. Deafening pressure silence. Me too! Plus a three day mini migraine so far..and I'm in MD btw Had strange(ok, stranger than normal) ringing starting around 7-7:30 central US time last night & started getting a raging, what I refer to as, energy/pressure headache at around 1pm. It's finally started calling down but it was a miserable couple of hours while it was making up its mind whether to go full blown migraine or not. I'm a proud Texan & American, posting from Central Texas & have no clue why my flag shows friggin Canada(no offense to my Canadian friends).

6. Missile succeeds, but warhead fails/fizzles. Bad for DPRK.
These accumulated risks are enough that I would think that DPRK would *not* choose to try this.
There are only a few "good" outcomes here for DPRK, and they'd be hard to judge the probability of occurring versus the others.
Presumably their military and scientific people are aware of this. If DPRK wants to rattle US, or demonstrate capability, many other ways.
But ultimately, it's up to them—so who knows? Nations have been known to take bad risks in the past. Including "sane" nations like USA.

Plus, I took a short road trip today to the wine country of Missouri (yes, that's a real thing). One of my BFF's mom died, and the service/burial were both out there. After the church service several of us decided to walk up the hill to the cemetery for the burial service. Not kidding when I say it was a huge hill, and straight up. I was sweating bullets! It was probably 90 at the time and humid, with 100% sun. Then had to stand out there about 20 minutes for the brief service. I was never so glad to get back in the A/C. The town is about 90 minutes from STL, and it's absolutely gorgeous country. It's a popular spot in the fall, because of the beautiful hills, bluffs, trees, numerous wineries, etc. Sits on the MO River too, so it's very scenic. From my mid-20's to mid-30's a big group of us charted a bus out there every fall for Octoberfest. It's the expected debauchery, but with wine vs. beer. Good times, and I had some flashbacks of those times as I drove through the little town. Unfortunately everything's still green, but it was a nice drive nonetheless and I tried to imagine how pretty it would look if the trees had color :) Sorry for the long story, I got out of hand there. |

The Mendocino Fracture Zone is a fracture zone and transform boundary off the coast of Cape Mendocino in far northern California. It runs westward from a triple junction with the San Andreas Fault and the Cascadia subduction zone to the southern end of the Gorda Ridge. It continues on west of its junction with the Gorda Ridge, as an inactive remnant section which extends for several hundred miles.
Technically, a fracture zone is not a transform fault, but in the case of the Mendocino, the term has been loosely applied to the active fault segment east of the Gorda Ridge as well as to the true fracture zone segment west of it. Many seismologists refer to the active segment as the Mendocino Fault or Mendocino fault zone.

Any thoughts on the long period of quiet on the Cascadian Subduction Zone? I've seen, up close & personal, the ghost forests of Willipa Bay & know that the area is, geologically speaking, overdue for a big, devastating quake & that the more time goes by without an event to release pressure, the worse it will ultimately be.
