My hearing aid on my good ear (my left ear is deaf) has gone bad. Really bad. Like: now there is a massively loud trill whenever people speak (not on every noise, just for speech), and things sound like someone has stuffed a wet cotton ball down my ear. Hearing in noise is damned impossible now. Thankfully hearing voices by themselves is still somewhat usable and I can get by (just barely). There is no discerning cause. And it is not due to ear wax either. I have checked my "normal" hearing without it and it is clear as can be (obviously not as loud)...
This will likely be my first upgrade of this year and is not something I want to do (it will cost around $3500), but it's a good thing I was able to notice something's wrong before something else seriously happens.
Because without my hearing aid I am functionally deaf.
I am debating telling my boss about this or if I should just call in sick on Wednesday when I see my audiologist to get a new one...
Quoting: CuriousSeeker Omg, I'm sorry CS. : ( Quoting: Simple27 It's fine. Just a few days of stress is all. And hearing like crap ;P I'll be good as new and hopefully on Wednesday I won't have to wait for a hearing aid to come in stock. Usually these things take a week or two after the order is placed. |

Quoting: CuriousSeeker I'd just call in sick. It is for your health so that is sick and then you won't have to take the chance of denial. sorry you are having this trouble. I had not idea you had hearing problems Quoting: WhiteAngel I'll sleep on it. My boss already knows about my hearing issues but I don't want to all of a sudden spring this on him...I'll play it by ear (pun intended) hah. Don't worry too much about it. I'm not. I don't broadcast it everywhere so I wouldn't expect everyone to :) It's all good. |

QUADRANTID METEOR SHOWER: Today, Jan. 4th, Earth is moving through a stream of debris from shattered comet 2003 EH1, source of the annual Quadrantid meteor shower. So far, there have been few reports of visual sightings--perhaps a result of cloudy winter weather in the northern hemisphere. Canada's Meteor Orbit Radar (CMOR) can see through the clouds, and radar maps show the shower is active. [ link to spaceweather.com] Quoting: -Haun- These were recorded yesterday. Could be a good show if you have clear skies tonight. : ) Bright Meteor/Fireballs Explode Across the States of AZ & NM in U..S. [ link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Quoting: Simple27 Awesome. Gotta look North-ish right? Quoting: Isis One We may have missed the peak, but if you have clear skies you may still see some. : ) This year, the shower peaks on Sunday night. Your best bet is to go outside after midnight (in other words, Sunday evening/Monday morning). The Moon will be a waning crescent, so it shouldn’t wash out too many meteors even though it rises around 01:00 local time. It doesn’t matter what direction you face, but the meteors will appear to stream away from a point on the sky to the northeast. [ link to www.slate.com] ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Tx sis!
Quoting: Isis One You're welcome! : ) How are your skies there? I've been under a cloud curse since Christmas day. Literally. A few breaks once in a while, but not during ideal night sky watching times. Plus, I suck at this telescope. Tried it a little while ago and I can't see anything through the main eyepiece. Guess it's not my forté. Oh well. At least I have it. I'll try to learn another time. Sticking with the camera for now. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Apollo Rocket Impact Site Finally Found A sharp-eyed NASA spacecraft has spotted the final resting place of part of one of the rockets that took astronauts to the moon, more than 43 years after the booster slammed into the lunar surface. The space agency's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has finally found the crater created by the impact of the Apollo 16 mission's S-IVB rocket stage back in April 1972, NASA officials announced last month. The impact crater, which is about 130 feet (40 meters) wide, lies on the moon's Mare Insularum, about 160 miles (260 kilometers) southwest of Copernicus Crater, one of the most famous and prominent features on the lunar near side, said team members with LRO's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC). the full article is here: [ link to www.space.com] "The government will one day be corrupt and full of liars, and the people will flock to the one that tells the truth." - “Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry.” - "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." - "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." - "A Country with no Border, is not a country" -- Thomas Jefferson
