A front is moving through, cold and windy. Not a moon to be seen tonight, at least so far! Heavy clouds! Great to see you 4H!
Quoting: bigD111 and you too BigD.. Sounds like here most the time.. I can never see anything. cloudy, wet and dark most the winter. Vitamin D comes in real handy here.. lol Quoting: 4thhorseman No kidding, I take it everyday! I was low after being outside all summer. I don't understand it? How can my legs and arms be tanned very nicely, and I am low in vitamin D? Quoting: bigD111 That is a mystery I would like to learn also. Very low Vit D here yet I was swimming all the time and very tanned, not now but it is a few points higher. Still critically low or are they using weird numbers to make us think we are low?? Or is something in our food or water using up all the Vit D in our bodies? Btw - the Vit D2 the doctor prescribed me make me sick feeling. It isn't even absorbed by the body like D3 is. I get that at the store and use instead breaking it up into one a day instead of the mega dose the prescription was, once a week. Quoting: WhiteAngel Vit D3 is what we need with Vit K2 to help it work. I just heard that to day about the K2. Quoting: WhiteAngel Vit D3 is what we need with Vit K2 to help it work. I just heard that to day about the K2. Quoting: 4thhorseman If you're low on magnesium, your body can't convert the Vitamin D into a usable form. You have to balance the intake of K2, D3, and Magnesium (along with Calcium). If you're low in K2 and Magnesium, D3 is next to useless. If you're low on D3, calcium is next to useless. Quoting: a Dude, not THE Dude How much of each should I take daily? Quoting: WhiteAngel That would depend a lot on your age group, build and deficiencies. I'm mildly deficient in D3, so I take 2000 IU per day. That can go up to 10k IU if you're extremely deficient and suffering osteoporosis. (600 IU per day is a typical recommendation for someone not deficient) Vitamin K is usually between 90 mcg to 120 mcg per day. 90 for women and 120 for men. The pills usually come in 100 mcg doses though. Don't ask me why. I take 4 every 3 days, just to be safe. Magnesium is a bit more tricky. The RDA (which is the absolute minimum to avoid bad effects) for men is 400 mg per day and for women is 300 mg per day. I take 500 mg pills at a rate of 4 every three days. Note that you have to monitor possible side effects to avoid overdose if you go over the RDA. You'll have to research what dose you should take. Also, If you have Kidney Disease, a slow heart rate or a HIGH Magnesium Level, supplementation of Magnesium could be a bad idea, except at the RDA dose (or even half that) because other supplements will use that magnesium to be absorbed. Taking those with a daily 3000 mcg dose of B-12 has been a huge help and really increased my health and energy levels. Edited to add calcium: Calcium is one I don't know much about because with so many foods that are calcium infused, we usually get enough in our diet, it's that it passes through because calcium requires D3 and Vit K to be fully utilized. I never had to take a calcium supplement so I couldn't tell you what you might need. Last Edited by a Dude, not THE Dude on 12/04/2017 02:09 AM |
