EDIT: Ops forgot the link.... [ link to www.spacedaily.com] As cosmic rays rain down from space, they increase the number of ions in Earth's atmosphere, which, according to scientists at the Technical University of Denmark, encourages the formation and growth of cloud condensation nuclei. The amount of cloud condensation nuclei in the atmosphere directly impacts cloud formation, which affects Earth's climate. If earth was hit with a large cosmic ray dusting for a period of time, the clouds would increase, lowering the temps and causing more moisture to fall!! My husband and I were talking about this just this past fall. We live about 18 miles from the Ohio River and the town we shop in sits right on it, so we see the river at least a couple of times a month. There's a boat storage facility and campground that sits along a side tributary not 1/4 mile in from the river and every single year that area floods. Every single year except this one. The water didn't even come close one time. Another thing we noticed were the ponds around our town and the lake at the town park. The cow ponds always get filled beyond their banks at least a couple of times every spring but again, not this year. And the town lake has remained so low that it had algae growing all the way across it at least 5 separate times. To know where your heart is, look where your mind goes when it wanders.

Day 2 of no Japanese quakes. I Skyped with my Uncle last night for a long time - none of his coworkers, or himself seemed worried over those multiple 5s the other day. Certainly seems weird to me. All that activity then just silence.. But then again what do I know?
Quoting: Master of Nothing Seems weird to me too. Quoting: Simple27 Make that 3. Personally, where that's that much activity and then it suddenly drops off, that concerns me. |

I still haven't looked into it heavily, but I'm seeing nothing about a 5.9. Globalincidentmap often has multiple listings for the same quakes, because they are from different reporting agencies. I'm assuming since I don't see anything else on it, this quake is the same as what was ultimately listed as a 5.0. |
