Here, it was mainly a big joke. Mostly rain, a little sleet but the roads had been so heavily pre-treated that little ice occurred. I think it was just a hype up to get people to spend money for groceries and salt that they didn't need to. Probably trying to make up for shitty xmas sales or some crap.
 Quoting: ~Jazzy~

Fear sells, especially when it comes to weather - no doubt.

2 days ago they were forecasting mid 40s here with no storms. 15 degrees off and now we have ice. They might as well just shut the weather channel down at this point lol
 Quoting: Master of Nothing

ikr! They're calling for 60 degree temps this Thursday and then 18 for Saturday. Either they're off their meds or mother nature is on the rag.
 Quoting: ~Jazzy~

These temperature swings are insane! My lips are about to be cracked and chapped like some crap cause of it
 Quoting: Master of Nothing

It also does shitty things to older bones and muscles. If the temps would stay somewhat constant, regardless of what that constant is, many of us would be feeling so much better. Drastic changes in temperatures bring drastic changes in barometric pressure which does impact the human body. It bloody blows.

Freezing rain starting to come down good here. I gotta get off the roads!

How icy are you ladies, Jazzy and Kickin?

Ellettsville took one for team! We use sand here to treat the roads and I'm quite thankful they didn't put any down. It would have made things much worse.

We didn't lose power and that was our only minor concern. We were set for it.

Glad it didn't get to your part of the state. hugs
 Quoting: -Haun-

Yeah. The news was hyping up the 'possible power outages' bullshit here too. Nobody lost power. Nobody. There wasn't any ice buildup to cause it...smh

I was beginning to wonder a couple of days ago if they even knew how to do their jobs. They kept changing the track of the storm. First it was going more north, then no..it was going more south. They kept changing it by the hour. Storms don't track in a constant zig zag. Where the fuck do weathermen get their degrees now? Looney Tune University?
 Quoting: ~Jazzy~

I don't know of any parts around here that lost power. I think it was too windy for ice to form on the lines. The roads had a sheet of ice on them but then that just means don't drive on them. The horses down the road are still in their heated barn but they will probably be let out later after more ice melts. I talked to their owner earlier who said it will have melted enough for them to graze later this afternoon.

As to the tracking of this storm, I agree with you. For awhile last night I thought it would miss you entirely because your part of the state was clear. Then later it was purple. Then clear. Then it jumped entirely to Ohio with the exception of South Central Indiana. What happened to the rest of Indiana that was under an ice storm threat? 1dunno1

I think most weathermen are political appointees. Do you remember at TWC a few years ago some of their "top" personalities were saying anyone that didn't believe in global warming should be fired. They were purged.

They all sing one song now, and its the song of stupid hence the ridiculous predictions. They have an agenda and you mentioned part of it in your first post. They love hysteria shopping.

Well, the only hysteria shopping they got out of us was an extra can of kerosene, which we would have eventually purchased anyway, since winter isn't over.

We did go grocery shopping but it was just our standard bi-monthly trip. The only difference was that we went later last evening, rather that yesterday afternoon, to avoid the crowds.

Monday? Never heard of it!

wow, it's Monday again today
and no one who wonders why
why we ever accepted it
that boring weekly rythm

it is about time for rebellion
two Saturdays and Sundays, no less
it really would not bother me
I could live with double days

you know what? today is Sunday again
sleep, quit singing before church
or after church of course, your call
Today anything goes, no stress

See, that's the way we do it
just ignore that whole Monday stuff
Why wait five days for the weekend
just leave it up to us

but we got to stick together
if someone asks when is Monday
we just say with a quasi-pensive look
Monday? Monday? Never heard of it!

It wasn't the bread, milk and eggs like you'd think. They were relatively full. It was the chips, donuts and pre-prepared deli meal shelves that were completely empty.

On a more serious note:

Quakes in this part of the Netherlands are increasing due to gas extraction. The Northeastern part of Holland has the largest gas field in Europe and the tenth biggest field in the world.

Look what gas extraction caused and the ignorance of the government on the matter at this link (with beeping sounds for each quake):

[link to www.dwarshuis.com]

They tuned down gas extraction over the past years, but it will never come to a stand still (to much money involved), causing enormous damages to houses in the area. Big legal fights going on between home owners and the responsible gas companies (Shell and ExxonMobil, together forming NAM (Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij.)

All this is quite comparable to the fracking quakes going on in for example Oklahoma. See what fracking caused between 2010 and 2014 here:

[link to www.dwarshuis.com]

It will be a matter of time before 3.4 quakes over here become 3.7, 4.0 etc. Kinda scary for such a small and overpopulated country.

Fracking is what has been causing most if not all of the quakes along the NM/CO border for years now. Expecting more north of my location as there are tons of the gas extraction wells going in. Just on one drive to go where I always bird, there are 20 of the nasty horrible things with huge walls around them. Not fences, these are steel and concrete walls at least 30 feet high.

Cars sliding and crashing as rain covers the road and turns it to ice. Crazy video on James White Parkway in Knoxville from this morning!

Ah geez! There isn't an angry bone in my body, but when I'm behind the wheel if people drive reckless and stupid I get some serious road rage.

Took me an hour to get home in the freezing rain (usually 20 min drive) earlier cause of 2 separate accidents on the same road just a few miles apart. They should make people drive on icy roads successfully in order to get a driver's license lol

Did you feel it?
 Quoting: Simple27

:whasked:

But no, I did not feel it Sim. We are about 90 miles south of where it happened. Don't know how that works, you and others are way more experienced in this, but our country is so extremely full with buildings, structures, roads etc., that I wonder how far an eq of that magnitude and depth is felt in this situation.

So far about 320 notifications of damaged houses (cracks in walls, subsidence etc.) No injuries or big calamaties reported.

I wouldn't try even after hearing it. Sounds like they are spitting or sneezing but the rest of it I was right on. Won't give it away more than that.

It snowed in Africa yesterday (Sahara in Algeria) for the second winter in a row, something that previously hadn't been seen for 40 years.

To know where your heart is, look where your mind goes when it wanders.

A rock in bad hands killed Abel. A rock in good hands killed Goliath. It isn't about the rock.

A true warrior fights not because he hates the one in front of him, but because he loves those behind him.
