Just scrolled through that list. Looks like there has never been two 6M+ quakes in the same year before in the records going back 2,000 years.

Pair of aftershocks strike Italy, 2 months after deadly earthquake

ROME – A pair of strong aftershocks shook central Italy late Wednesday, crumbling churches and buildings, knocking out power and sending panicked residents into the rain-drenched streets just two months after a powerful earthquake killed nearly 300 people.

The first quake carried a magnitude of 5.4, but the second one was eight times stronger at 6.1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Because many residents had already left their homes after the first one struck at 7:10 p.m., with plans to spend the night in their cars or elsewhere, they weren’t home when the second one hit two hours later, possibly saving lives, news reports said.

“It was an unheard-of violence. Many houses collapsed,” Ussita Mayor Marco Rinaldi told Sky TG24. “The facade of the church collapsed. By now I have felt many earthquakes. This is the strongest of my life. It was something terrible.”

Calling it “apocalyptic,” he said the town and its hamlets were “finished.” “People are screaming on the street and now we are without lights.”

“We’re without power, waiting for emergency crews,” said Mauro Falcucci, the mayor of Castelsantangelo sul Nera, near the epicenter. Speaking to Sky TG24, he said: “We can’t see anything. It’s tough. Really tough.”

Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated
Yesterday really sucked.

In my spare time, for my profession I am a columnist -- for FREE might I add -- for the #1 site in my industry. Yesterday, they terminated me citing "factual errors" and having to spend hours providing feedback which is absolutely absurd. I research everything I write about and can provide proof in case anything I write is ever called into question.

I emailed back apologizing but also telling them what's what - I expanded my article and provided links and explanations which proved everything I was talking about. I explained how my article was not supposed to be fully in-depth and was only supposed to be a brief survey of the issues involved (it was after all over 1200 words - ended up being over 1600 words after my expansion). Basically saying "Fuck you" without saying fuck you. I put them in their place while being congenial, professional, and leaving things open should they wish to contact me again. You would think that editors of these articles would be experts in the industry themselves, and would KNOW that what I am writing is factual without having to explain every tiny detail.

I tend not to pander to existing agendas - I deliver based on what actually happens and what is the truth. Which is what I was told I was being brought on for - to bring in an "in the trenches" perspective.

Yeah, huge downgrades on a few of them as far as the magnitude. And yes, also depths.

My above 'good' and cheers was to CS. Not this post. : )

Definitely sounds like you got screwed, for what purpose is not clear. But it sounds like you handled it well and also backed your work, so good for you. I hope there is another site out there who might appreciate your work (and maybe with a little compensation!). Maybe this was a stepping stone for you, #1 site or not. Fuck those jerks!
