Last night I was going to ask Finland what the precursors might be for CA since it has been so long since they have had a big quake. This 6.8 was off the coast and still not on land. Would still like to know if he, Finland has noticed a pattern for any of the larger quakes in CA. The bay area has been on mind for over a week. Less so would be the LA area. |

No aftershocks yet, and 110 years ago......San Fran had a major quake, and there haven't been any of that magnitude in California that wasn't preceded by a Cascadia rip according to the Wikilicky We're 315 years into our Cascadia cycle so we know we're in the danger zone--it's with out a doubt no problem to say a M6.5 here is big news; especially considering we know the southern Cascadia section gives out first (Nor Cal). We're 60/40 right now till an aftershock hits |

Scientists say 9.3magnitude quake possible after TEN tremors in ten days This has lots of good info [ link to www.express.co.uk] Quoting: Goofy for God The buildup and periodic release of seismic pressure along the northern San Andreas fault in the 1800s produced a series of magnitude 6.0 or greater earthquakes, leading up to the famous 1906 San Francisco magnitude 7.8 earthquake, says John Rundle, a geophysicist at the University of California, Davis. And that pressure is building again, seismologists think. "History will not necessarily repeat itself, but we might see something similar," he added. [ link to news.nationalgeographic.com] |
